In the new Theatre-Sauna of Aquardens (Ospedaletto di Pescantina, Verona), exactly 150 years after its first performance, an artistic performance will recall the history of the opera Carmen and recreate its Spanish world. The opera, which at the time was a truly groundbreaking work, will be the subject of a world premiere and a unique proposal. The sauna-theatre (the biggest in Europe) will be able to accommodate 300 people and will be ready by March 2025
Presentation of the press-preview of the project: Flavio Zuliani and Federica Reani, CEO and General Manager of Aquardens, Stefano Trespidi and Yamala Das Irmici, Deputy Artistic Director and Director of the Arena di Verona. A sauna theatre that will be able to accommodate up to 300 people at Aquardens, Italy’s largest spa park.
From the stage of one of the most beautiful and famous theatres under the stars in the world to the sauna theatre of Aquardens: the opera, a Unesco World Heritage Site, will be experiencing an unprecedented declination thanks to the partnership between the Fondazione Arena di Verona and the Thermal Park. It will be the first time in the world that an opera, adapted to the occasion, will be performed in a sauna.
Large, colourful fans will replace the cloths and towels used by the masters of the infusion in order to fully involve the audience and transport them to another era. Suggestions to arouse the curiosity of the participants, who will then be able to discover the opera Carmen in the Arena di Verona.
In the sauna, it will be 12 minutes of great intensity through a reinterpretation that will be able to enchant the spectator while respecting the sauna’s safety and wellness times. Carmen, Frasquita, Mercedes, Escamillo, Don Josè are just some of the characters that will come to life in this show, which will be a mixture of art and ritual. The show will be directed by the director of the Fondazione Arena Yamala-Das Irmici.
