Sandro Veronesi, already well-known for his investments in Lazio, Sardinia, and Valpolicella with Alberto Malesani’s La Giuva in Trezzolano, is expanding his wine empire by entering the Trentodoc market. The new winery is currently in the last stages of development in Brentonico and represents another big step forward for the Calzedonia-Oniverse Group, which the prominent Verona businessman runs.
The firm now owns 12 hectares of vineyards planted with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, separated into two plots: 600 and 1,000 metres above sea level. This strategic division is intended to alleviate the impact of rising temperatures caused by climate change.
For the Group, which entered the wine industry a decade ago and revolutionized wine distribution with the Signorvino project—72 million euros in revenue in Italy and abroad, including sophisticated Paris—this development confirms a passion that has become an increasingly important business alongside its traditional clothing sector.
Lazio, Sardegna and Valpolicella
Tenimenti del Leone, located in the Castelli Romani, is a 30-hectare vineyard planted with Cesanese, Malvasia Puntinata, Chardonnay, Merlot, and Syrah, as well as 20 hectares of organic olive trees. The first vintage was in 2017, and numerous wines carry the DOC Roma designation, considered one of Italy’s youngest yet most evocative designations.
Veronesi runs a 16-hectare farm in Sardinia, near Alghero’s Guardia Grande Nature Park, which specialises in local types such as Vermentino, Cannonau, Bovale, and Cagnulari. The first harvest was completed in 2022, using only a portion of the vineyard.
Then, the Veronese businessman acquired La Giuva in Valpolicella, in the Trezzolano area, near the Parco della Lessinia a year ago. The estate cultivates Oseleta, Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella grapes for producing Amarone and classic Veronese wines.
The new winery, Agribel
The new winery in Brentonico, set to be named Agribel, is close to the Falconeri property in Avio. After receiving early backing from the Cantina di Riva del Garda, Luca Pizzighella and Federico Veronesi, heads of the Calzedonia Group’s wine business (properly called Oniverse), turn to the enologist Matteo Moser.
