Fieracavalli’s 125th edition marked its opening ceremony this morning at Veronafiere, with a ribbon-cutting that earned it the title of “The World’s Greatest Riding Ground.” The finest horses of the equestrian world will be showcased in Verona for four days, and many political and military authorities were in attendance to mark the occasion.
Fieracavalli’s numbers
More than 700 exhibiting firms from 25 countries, 35 breeding groups, 12 exhibition halls, and 2,500 horses on display representing more than 60 breeds can be found at Fieracavalli. The calendar features over 200 events, ranging from shows and evening galas to conventions, competitions, and sporting events. Notable events include the only Italian stage of the Longines FEI Jumping World CupTM, the Italian Champions Tour national finals, the 125×125 Grand Prix tagged Fieracavalli, FISE (Italian Equestrian Sports Federation) competitions, and challenges from western disciplines.
Fieracavalli is the emblem of a sector that is directly responsible for 100,000 horses in sport, employs 30,000 people in Italy, and is valued at over 3 billion euros (source research: “The Winning Horse,” Luiss Business School, and Fise). Over 380 thousand horses are registered in the nation overall, and 140 thousand farms are working to improve the 32 Italian horse breeds. Lastly, according to Confagricoltura, 1,400 agritourisms offer horseback riding services.
