It is a very important event for Veronese sportsmen because Hellas is the city’s leader football team and is very beloved. Thousands of gialloblu fans – the club’s colors are yellow and blue – are expected to make their way to Udine to cheer on the team in the hope that it will stay in Serie A. The serie A is in fact the highest Italian football league, where Hellas has played for many years winning a championship in 1985.
Verona had an unsuccessful season in 2022-23, finishing third in the points standings alongside Spezia. Since there are three relegation teams, those who will lose on Sunday, will be dropped to the B series. And it would be a huge letdown for the Veronese, who this year celebrated the 120th anniversary of the founding of the Hellas club, which in Greek means “Greece,” because it was founded in 1903 by a group of students attending the classical high school Scipione Maffei, where Greek is among the main subjects.
