The Romeo & Giulietta Run Half Marathon is celebrating its 18th edition this year, welcoming 8,500 participants on Sunday, February 16. This prestigious event, organized by Gaac 2007, offers runners an unforgettable experience through the enchanting streets of Verona, the city of love.
One of the most anticipated elements of this year’s marathon is its unique medal, which symbolizes the spirit of the race. Stefano Stanzial, the event’s general director, describes it as a “masterpiece of engineering” featuring a red head symbolizing passion and a key at the center representing access to the heart of the beloved city, Verona.
The popularity of the Romeo & GiuliettaRun Half Marathon continues to grow. Among 375 half marathons in Italy, it ranks fifth nationally and holds the top position in Veneto. The event’s autumn counterpart also enjoys a high ranking, standing seventh overall.
This year, the marathon sees a remarkable increase in international participation, with 1,500 foreign runners, more than doubling last year’s 700. Participants come from all over the world, turning the event into a perfect combination of sport and tourism. Additionally, 400 members of the 85th Rav military corps will take part, further enriching the spirit of unity and camaraderie that defines the race.
Running for Health and Inclusion
During the official presentation, Annamaria Molino, municipal councillor for the Healthy Cities Network of the World Health Organization, highlighted the marathon’s role in promoting well-being, inclusion, and social integration. In an era where sedentary lifestyles are increasing, events like this encourage physical activity and community engagement.
The Romeo & Juliet Run Half Marathon offers three distinct race formats:
- Romeo & Juliet Zero Wind: A competitive 21-kilometer race, requiring a medical sports certificate.
- Adigeo Verona Relay: A two-person relay race (13 km + 8 km).
- Family Run: A 7-kilometer non-competitive event, starting and finishing near the Portoni della Bra, allowing participants to explore Verona’s most iconic landmarks at their own pace.
Last year’s fastest runners were Mikesa Mengesha (1:00:15) and Janet Chepngetich (1:06:58), setting a high standard for this year’s competitors. Organizers are currently securing top athletes for the 2025 edition, facing strong competition from other international events. The best performance will be honored with the prestigious Dario Bergamini Trophy.
The organizing team, led by Stefano Stanzial, includes key partners such as Colonel Nicola Castello of the 85th Rav, marketing manager Nicolò Ferrarese of Zero Wind, Adigeo center manager Fabio Fornasier, and Fidal representatives Sergio Baldo and Dino Mascalzoni.
