The world of powerlifting is gearing up for a major event in Verona: the Battle of the North, taking place on February 22-23, 2025, at the Centro Sportivo Monti Lessini in Bosco Chiesanuova. This annual competition, organized by the International Powerlifting League Italia (Ipl Italia), offers a unique opportunity for athletes of various weight categories and experience levels to compete in the three main disciplines: squat, bench press, and deadlift.

The event attracts participants from across Italy and beyond, providing a platform for national-level competition and the chance to qualify for prestigious international events such as the European and World Powerlifting Championships. Registration is open until January 21, 2025.

Verona has rapidly earned recognition as the powerlifting capital of Italy

The strong bond between the city and the sport has been strengthened by establishing Ipl Italia in 2023. This federation was founded by a group of passionate individuals from Verona, including Marianna Bovo, a three-time world champion, and Aldo Codognola, the federation’s president. Verona has become a key destination for athletes and regularly hosts national competitions, such as the Battle of the North.

Marianna Bovo, a symbol of Verona’s powerlifting growth, captured two world titles in November 2024 at the World Championships in Elefsina, Greece, while setting Italian records in squat, bench press, and deadlift. Her success is the result of years of dedication and hard work, and it reflects the increasing popularity of powerlifting in Verona, particularly at the Centro Sportivo Monti Lessini, which hosts numerous events.
