The Lake Garda region is not only renowned for its breathtaking landscapes and rich cultural heritage but also for its exceptional winemaking traditions. With the aim of showcasing this unique enological heritage to the world, the initiative Lake Garda Wines was launched. This ambitious project is the result of collaboration among five prestigious wine consortia: Bardolino, Custoza, Garda, Lugana, and Valtènesi. Their mission is to highlight the extraordinary wines produced in this region while also promoting the stunning landscapes where they originate.
Lake Garda, with its unique microclimate and centuries-old winemaking traditions, provides an ideal environment for high-quality wine production. This distinctive ecosystem contributes to the creation of wines that not only reflect the terroir but also embody the cultural richness of the area. Speaking at the project’s presentation in Milan, Paolo Fiorini, president of the Garda DOC protection consortium, emphasized: “We are not only promoting our wines but also the cultural and landscape heritage that makes Lake Garda a unique and emotionally captivating destination”.
A significant test for this newly established synergy among the consortia will be the upcoming Vinexpo-Wine Paris, taking place from Monday to Wednesday in the French capital. This international event will serve as the launchpad for a pioneering joint promotion effort, showcasing the Lake Garda Wines collective as a model of cooperation in the wine industry. The initiative is structured to maintain the unique characteristics of each denomination while leveraging their shared identity to enhance global recognition.
Roberta Bricolo, president of the Custoza Consortium, underlined the importance of this strategic alliance: “The five consortia have come together to face the challenges of the global market with determination and unity. Our goal is to optimize resources, enhance the authenticity of our territory, and strengthen our international presence”.
The enthusiasm surrounding this project is shared by Fabio dei Micheli, head of the Bardolino DOC, who highlighted the importance of unity in increasing visibility: “Working together allows us to create a shared message that showcases our region’s unique climatic potential, setting a benchmark for quality”.
Fabio Zenato, president of the Lugana DOC Consortium, whose vineyards stretch from Verona to Brescia, the initiative is a powerful tool to tell the collective story of Lake Garda and its winemaking traditions: “We aim to strengthen the enological identity of each denomination while promoting a shared vision of sustainability, innovation, and a common commitment to the future of wine”.
Echoing this sentiment, Paolo Pasini, president of the Valtènesi Consortium, pointed out that Lake Garda’s unique microclimate is the defining factor for all wines produced in the area: “The unity of consortia and the distinctive denominations they represent is the best way to share with the world the beauty and excellence that define our region. Through Lake Garda Wines, we can narrate the history of a territory that has been producing wines closely linked to its natural, cultural, and historical roots for centuries”.
Lake Garda Wines represents an unprecedented initiative that blends tradition, innovation, and cooperation, ensuring that the world recognizes the region not only for its exceptional wines but also for the extraordinary landscape that makes them possible.
