Verona is set to once again become a hub of artistic and musical excellence with the return of the “Musei in Musica” (Museums in Music) series by Fondazione Arena di Verona. Following its sold-out success in its inaugural year, this innovative chamber music season returns with an expanded programme and three prestigious venues.
Running from 12 January to 7 December, the 2025 edition will host 11 concerts on select Sunday mornings at 11 am, uniting the enchantment of live music with the historical and cultural wealth of Verona’s museums. This year’s venues include Palazzo Maffei Casa Museo, Sala Maffeiana, and the Museo degli Affreschi Gian Battista Cavalcaselle, each offering a unique backdrop for this auditory journey.
The concerts will feature the talented professors of the Fondazione Arena Orchestra, who will perform a varied repertoire spanning from classical masterpieces by Bach and Mozart to modern compositions by Stravinsky. Each performance showcases a mix of soloists and ensembles, ranging from quartets to ensembles of up to thirteen musicians.
An exciting addition to the experience is the inclusion of complimentary museum visits with concert tickets. Audience members can explore the featured museums either an hour before the performance or at their convenience within the concert season. This pairing of music and visual art enriches the cultural offering and fosters a deeper connection with Verona’s artistic heritage.
Highlights of the programme include:
- A Mozart and Dvořák evening at Palazzo Maffei on 12 January, exploring the thematic interplay between the “dissonance” of Mozart’s quartets and Dvořák’s American Quartet.
- A Beethoven celebration on 2 March, featuring his rarely heard Serenata and Settimino, performed by an intimate ensemble.
- A special Bach dedication on 13 April, where the intricate Musikalisches Opfer will be brought to life by seven musicians.
The series concludes on 7 December with Stravinsky’s Histoire du soldat and Octet, reflecting themes of war, peace, and humanity’s shared stories.
Tickets are now available for individual concerts at €15 (€10 for under 30s) or through a season subscription for €100 (€80 for under 30s). Both options include access to the museums, making “Musei in Musica” an unmissable event for art and music lovers alike.
By seamlessly weaving together Verona’s rich artistic traditions with world-class musical performances, “Musei in Musica” is set to be a highlight of the city’s cultural calendar in 2025.
