The Broccoletto di Custoza, a winter vegetable typical of the hills around Sommacampagna, in the province of Verona, takes center stage once again with a month of festivities dedicated to celebrating the region’s culinary and cultural heritage. From January 3 to February 16, 2025, the area will come alive with festivals, tastings, specially crafted dishes, and sporting events.

“I Sapori del Broccoletto”: a flavorful weekend experience

The much-loved weekend event, “I Sapori del Broccoletto,” expands this year with a new heated pavilion in Piazza Nuova, Custoza. This venue will host the festivities on January 3-6 and January 10-12.

Visitors can indulge in various mouthwatering dishes, including broccoletto tortelli, bigoli with broccoletto, fried broccoletto, and the unique broccoburger. The event, organized by ProLoco, will open on Fridays at 7:00 PM. On Saturdays, Sundays, and January 6, the pavilion will also serve lunch starting at noon.

A special highlight is the Slow Food Earth Market on Sunday, January 5, in Piazza della Repubblica, offering local products from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

“Broccoletto in Piazza” returns for 12 days

Following the weekend events, the Broccoletto in Piazza festival kicks off on January 22 and runs until February 2. Held in the same pavilion, the event will showcase traditional dishes reimagined with modern flair. Dinner service will be available on Fridays from 7:00 PM, with lunch and dinner on weekends.

Themed dinners and wine pairings

Broccoletto will also shine in “Il Broccoletto in Tavola,” a series of themed dinners in local restaurants, pairing seven broccoletto-based courses with Custoza DOC wines.

  • January 10: Locanda Vecchia Custoza
  • January 17: Ristorante Picoverde
  • January 24: Ristorante Villa Vento
  • January 29: Ristorante Tamburino Sarda
  • February 1: Ristorante Antico Ristoro

Dinners begin at 8:30 PM, with a cost of €50 per person.

In addition, “I Sabati del Gusto” will offer wine tastings paired with broccoletto at local wineries. Starting on January 4, tastings will take place on Saturdays before lunch and dinner, providing a perfect complement to the festivities.

Sporting events in February

The Broccoletto Festival will include two exciting sporting events:

  • February 2: The Broccoletto Bike Run, an 8 km duathlon through the scenic morainic hills, starting at Corte Vittoria at 10:00 AM.
  • February 14: The Marcia di Custoza, a traditional walk in Piazza Nuova, with registrations open from 8:00 to 9:00 AM.
