The first operations to set up the Christmas Markets in Verona began today, starting this year in Via Pallone (near the historic city walls, a few steps from the Arena of Verona) and no longer in Piazza dei Signori and adjacent courtyards. Workers are setting up the first platforms on which the small wooden houses that will host the 15th edition of the Nuremberg Markets will then be placed. A parking ban is already in force in the area, including the car park on the square before Ponte Aleardi.

When and where the markets are

This year the markets will be held from 15 November to 26 December in a 200-metre-long section of Via Pallone, suitably cordoned off, between stradone Scipione Maffei and the junction with Porta Mura Medievali. The stands will be open Sunday to Thursday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, Saturday and public holidays from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., on 24 December from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., on Christmas from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m., and on 26 December, the last day, until 8 p.m.

Ice rink

From 15 November, the ice rink will be back in Piazza Arsenale (until 28 February), while Santa Clause will be arriving in the neighbourhoods, a project in cooperation with the Circoscrizioni, on 3 December in Madonna di Campagna, 6 December in Borgo Roma, 10 December in Montorio, 13 December in Borgo Trento, 16 December in Santa Croce, 18 December at the Stadio and 21 December at Golosine.

Road conditions

From 4 November the necessary traffic changes for the new layout will come into force. Parking will be forbidden on the Via Pallone dual carriageway, which from tomorrow will be closed to traffic in both directions, for both private and public vehicles, from the junction with stradone San Fermo to the intersection with Via Del Pontiere. Cars and coaches coming from Piazza Bra and heading towards the Aleardi bridge will have to turn onto stradone San Fermo and then take via San Pietro Incarnario on the right and then, again on the right, via Ponte Rofiolo and continue out of the centre. Those coming from Ponte Aleardi will be able to turn right or left. A left turn that will instead be obligatory for public transport: the buses, in fact, will be diverted to via Del Pontiere and then to via Adigetto where, right in front of the registry office, the current bus stop will be temporarily moved, which is now on via Pallone, one of the bus stops most used by students. In order to create suitable space, ten parking spaces will be temporarily removed. In via Ponte Rofiolo the Ztl will be suspended and will therefore become a two-way street for cars. Parking on one side of the street will be maintained. Residents of the Filippini district will also be given the opportunity to park in the Cittadella area without restrictions.
