The world-renowned Harlem Gospel Choir will perform at the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona on December 9, 2024, for a concert dedicated to the legendary Aretha Franklin. Known for its powerful vocal performances and contagious energy, the American choir consists of the finest voices and musicians from the gospel churches of the Harlem neighborhood and New York.
Harlem Gospel Choir’s history
Founded in 1986 by Allen Bailey, the Harlem Gospel Choir presents modern gospel classics as performed in the black churches of Harlem today. The choir has performed alongside global superstars such as Bono, Diana Ross, The Gorillaz, Andre Rieu, Damon Albarn, Pharrell Williams, and most recently with JamieXX, Raury, KBS Korean Traditional Music Orchestra, Lang Lang, Lou Gramm of Foreigner, Dee Snider of Twisted Sister, Sia, Yolanda Adams, The 1975, Ibeyi, Nile Rodgers, Kathy Sledge and at the 2018 Grammy Award Show with Sam Smith. They have performed for three presidents (President Obama, President Carter, and President Nelson Mandela), two popes (Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI), Ban Ki-Moon, and the UN General Assembly.
In 2022, the Harlem Gospel Choir toured major cities worldwide with their tribute to Nina Simone, followed by their 2023 project, “Celebrating 60 Years of Whitney Houston,” marking the 60th anniversary of the singer’s birth. Their upcoming concert in Verona promises to be a soulful homage to the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, and a must-see event for music lovers.
