The Verona Shakespeare Fringe Festival will enthrall spectators from August 22 to 29 at Camploy Theater, with a diverse roster of eight performances from theater companies worldwide. The productions are from Ukraine, the United States, Georgia, Iran, Poland, the Czech Republic, France, the United Kingdom, and Taiwan, and will be performed in their native language with English subtitles. This international festival, part of the Estate Teatrale Veronese (Verona Summer Theater) program, provides a unique opportunity to encounter Shakespearean works via inventive and multimedia adaptations, offering new views on the Bard’s timeless themes.

The Comedy of Errors, Kyiv National Academic Molody Theatre

A Global Celebration of Shakespeare

The festival opens on Thursday, August 22, with The Comedy of Errors performed by the Kyiv National Academic Molody Theatre from Ukraine. The following day, Friday, August 23, the American Proboscis Theatre Company presents Prospero’s Black Box, an original monodrama. On Saturday, August 24, Georgia’s Movement Theatre will perform Hamlet, while Sunday, August 25, features the Macbeth Zar, blending Shakespeare with South-Iranian rituals, brought by the Iranian-Polish company Titowak under Ebrahim Poshtkoohi.

The festival continues on Monday, August 26, with a musical journey into Elizabethan sounds led by singer-songwriter Daniel Zappi. On Tuesday, August 27, the French Footsbarn Travelling Theatre reimagines Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night in a modern setting. Wednesday, August 28, brings Richard III (A One-Person Show), a creation of director Kolbrun Bjort Sigfusdottir and British actress Emily Carding. The festival concludes on Thursday, August 29, with the Taiwanese Contemporary Legend Theatre’s remarkable rendition of King Lear, performed by Wu Hsing-kuo.
