The Festa del Boscaiolo e delle Foreste (Woodsmen and Forests Festival) is returning. On Sunday, September 1, Val di Fiemme will host the much-anticipated annual event, celebrating the region’s rich forestry traditions and bringing together professional woodsmen from all over Italy to showcase their skills in challenging competitions.

Five teams, five challenges

The event is held at the “Stadio dei Larici,” near Piazzol in Castello-Molina di Fiemme, and has a unique competitive format. Five teams of woodsmen will compete in five diverse tasks, each aimed at testing a different aspect of their profession. The activities include chainsaw tree felling, axe log splitting, chainsaw branch trimming, handsaw log cutting, and traditional log hauling. In addition to these team games, there will be an optional solo tree-climbing competition.

The Festa del Boscaiolo is only open to professional woodworkers who own, work for, or collaborate with forestry companies in Val di Fiemme. This guarantees that the event accurately reflects the local community’s expertise and passion for their art. But the festival is more than simply a competition; it’s a joyous celebration of the Fiemme people’s common heritage, fraternity, and enduring connection to their woodlands.

Discover the Magnifica Comunità di Fiemme

Val di Fiemme is noted not just for its picturesque surroundings and rich traditions, but also for its unique type of municipal government. The valley is home to the Magnifica Comunità di Fiemme, a thousand-year-old historical institution. The Comunità is a “vicinia,” or a group of residents from several municipalities who share ownership of the region’s woodlands and pastures. This “rustic republic” retains autonomy while carefully managing the land to preserve its natural beauty and riches for future generations.

The Magnifica Comunità di Fiemme manages a territory extending beyond Val di Fiemme, including sections of Val di Fassa and South Tyrol. The natural park is home to the municipalities of Moena, Predazzo, Ziano, Panchià, Tesero, Cavalese, Ville di Fiemme, Castello-Molina di Fiemme, and Trodena.
