Verona is set to be enchanted by the vibrant sounds of Fatoumata Diawara, the Malian singer-songwriter, guitarist, and actress who has garnered international acclaim and two Grammy nominations. Tomorrow night, Saturday, July 6, Fatoumata Diawara will arrive in Verona for the second event of the Rumors Festival. The artist will present her new album “London Ko,” a journey that explores her Mandinka roots, perfectly blending afrobeat, jazz, pop, electronic, and hip-hop influences.
“London Ko” describes an imaginary continent connecting Africa and Europe, an alternative space and time where people can become the masters of their destiny. By positioning herself as the protagonist of a future world, the artist firmly places herself among the great voices of Afrofuturism.
Fatoumata Diawara’s new album remains deeply rooted in tradition while simultaneously offering a vision of the full potential of the African continent. “For me, ‘London Ko’ means opening the mind. It also represents Damon Albarn’s connection to Malian music,” she explains.
