Vinitaly’s international mission has restarted, with VeronaFiere focusing on Asia and its rising markets, particularly South Korea and India. The first destination was Seoul, which offered a preview of the future Vinitaly from June 12 to 14; on Sunday, June 16, Vinitaly Preview India will be formally presented in New Delhi, which will take place next November (22-23).
Vinitaly in South Korea
Over the last five years, there has been a 123% increase in wine imports to the Republic of Korea, totalling 450 million euros in 2023. Italian wine imports have also experienced a consistent growth trend (+114%), reaching a value of 62 million euros last year with a 14% share of total purchases. French wines dominate the market with 187 million euros, followed closely by the United States at 71 million euros. In the Korean market, red Italian still wines are the most popular, although sparkling wines hold a significant 17% share, which is higher than in other regions.
Vinitaly in India
After a 15-year hiatus, India is once again on Vinitaly’s radar, with plans to promote Italian wine in the Asian country. Veronafiere and the Indian Chamber of Commerce have reached an agreement at the recent international wine and spirits expo in Verona. The collaboration includes a series of initiatives, starting with the presentation of Vinitaly Preview India in Rome on June 16 at the chamber’s India Forum. This event, aimed at buyers and the press, will be replicated in numerous target countries across Europe and beyond in 2025. The goal is to target the potential market, particularly the high-end segment, focusing on India’s growing tourist sector.
The autumn promotional calendar has been updated, and Veronafiere/Vinitaly has confirmed the following events to support Italian wine: Vinitaly China Roadshow in Shanghai, Xian, and Guangzhou from September 2–6, Vinitaly USA in Chicago from October 20–21, Vinitaly Wine Vision in Belgrade from November 22–24, and Vinitaly Asia Roadshow in Singapore on December 2 and Tokyo on December 4. Furthermore, Vinitaly and ICE-Agency will attend the Wine Exchange events in Japan, visiting Osaka on October 7 and Tokyo on October 9.
