Illuminations in many areas of the city, light projections in the most evocative squares, real fir trees, markets that for the first time will warm up the atmosphere even in the shadow of Palazzo Chiericati, and an indoor ice skating rink that is also accessible to disabled people. Christmas is just around the corner and the city of Vicenza is also wearing its festive dress with many initiatives, including New Year’s Eve in Viale Roma. Vicenza is one of the seven provinces of the Veneto region and is about 60 km from Verona.
Markets and events in Vicenza
A full calendar of markets with entertainment activities will liven up all weekends of the Christmas holidays until 7 January in the city centre. The traditional wooden huts of the ‘Christmas Village’ in Piazza Biade, Corso Palladio, and for the first time in Piazza Matteotti from 1 to 26 December, with music and shows for adults and children, will be revived. And then for three weekends “The Magic of Christmas” in Piazza Duomo with pipers and a parade of Bernese cattle dogs.
“Coldiretti’s Christmas Village” brings to Piazza San Lorenzo a programme of activities including creative cooking workshops for children, shows, and concerts. Finally, for two weekends “Handmerry Christmas” will be in Corte dei Bissari and Piazza dei Signori with craft products and entertainment. The festivities will end with the three-day Epiphany fair in Viale Roma and Piazza Castello organised by Non ho l’età, which will also offer Unico – Il mercato del fatto a mano and the Mercato dell’antiquariato (Antiques Market) for two days.
The big Christmas tree in Piazza dei Signori
The tree in Piazza dei Signori and the five trees in the squares are real plants. The main one is 10 metres high. The five trees, about 5 metres high, will be placed in Piazza Matteotti, Castello, Biade, San Lorenzo, and Contra’ Garibaldi. They will all be decorated with led lights using the ‘branch-branch’ technique. The trees and luminous stars along the city streets will remain lit from 4.30 pm to midnight.
