The Michelin Guide 2024 ceremony, eagerly awaited by enthusiasts and industry experts, took place yesterday in the city of Brescia. As regards Verona, another medal was added to the six reconfirmations: that of the ‘Nin’ restaurant in Brenzone on Lake Garda and its chef Terry Giacomello. The concept of the restaurant – ‘Nin’ in Friulian slang means child – was born with the precise intention of constructing a space within a space, a sort of bubble with its own identity with a dining room overlooking Lake Garda.

The cuisine of ‘Nin’ is very technical, unique, futuristic, spanning various disciplines, using typical products and traditional preparations reinterpreted in an innovative way. The inspectors of the legendary guide decided to reward his art with this motivation “he took inspiration from his travels around the world to compose the ‘NIN’ menu, and then ideally returned to Italy with the other route called Classics”. His cuisine is a mix of modern technique and classical reminiscences, creativity and innovation. The room on the first floor overlooks Lake Garda, but only a lucky few have the privilege of a table with a view: better to book in advance.

Among the most popular dishes was the lake char with avocado gazpacho, olive juice and burnt mandarin peel oil, a dish in which acidity and sweetness are perfectly balanced thanks to the fragrant notes of mandarin.

The new Michelin star in the province of Verona is it not a novelty for the city. Last year’s recipient of the coveted award, reconfirmed in this edition, was the brigade of ‘Famiglia Rana’, the restaurant in Oppeano led by the Neapolitan chef Giuseppe D’Aquino. Also retaining their stars are ‘Oseleta’, in Cavaion Veronese, with chef Marco Marras, ‘Vecchia Malcesine’ in Malcesine, with owner chef Leandro Luppi, and ‘Amistà’ in Corrubbio di Negarine with chef Mattia Bianchi.

Keeping the name of Verona citycenter high is the traditionally emblazoned chef Giancarlo Perbellini with the two stars of ‘Casa Perbellini – 12 Apostoli’ and the star of chef Matteo Rizzo’s ‘Il Desco’. In total, stars shine in seven Verona venues: six restaurants with one star and one with two.

What about Michelin stars in the Veneto region? Overall, Veneto can boast one Michelin three-star restaurant, ‘Le Calandre’ in Rubano (Padua) led by chef Massimiliano Alajmo, four restaurants with two stars and 27 monostars.
